Endodontics is a
division of dentistry that deals with the physiology, pathology and
morphology of the human dental soft tissue and periradicular tissues.
The study covers the fundamental clinical sciences that include
biology of the typical soft tissue; the diagnosis, etiology,
treatment and prevention of diseases.

Endodontics is an
area of dentistry, with primary concern on the roots and soft matter
under the tooth. Some dentists opt to specialize in endodontics, and
they spend additional years in studying this specialty after they are
finished taking up a regular dentistry course. Many dentists try to
earn a Master’s Degree in endodontics. Usually dentists who
practice endodontics do complicated root canals procedures, around 16
million per year in the United States alone. Root canal procedures
can also be done by general dentists.
The main objective
of dentistry is the maintenance of good oral health for the
well-being of the patient. Endodontic treatment aims to preserve the
natural dentition by, but not restricted to:
• Deterrence of
pulpal disease
•
Fundamental pulp therapy
emergency teeth care |
• Root
canal procedure
• Surgical
endodontics procedures
• Core or
post and core renovation after root canal treatment
•
Whitening of root-filled teeth
•
Traumatized teeth management
The endodontic
dentist is accountable for the development of endodontic
understanding through research; the spread of information regarding
the most current advances in biologically suitable procedures and
equipment; and the education of the community as to the significance
of endodontics in maintaining the dentition in a physiologically
useful condition for the preservation of oral and complete health.
Root canals are
necessary when the pulpy part of the tooth in the roots is diseased.
The exterior of the tooth may still look healthy, but the roots are
already deteriorating. The dentist that specializes in endodontics
digs out the diseased pulp from under the tooth with the use of a
drill.
stages of tooth decay |
A dentist maybe
enough if only one root is diseased, but if there are more than one
diseased root, an endodontist is required to clean out and do the
pulp extraction. The entire process is a difficult one and it usually
takes a while before an endodotist may be available for a schedule. A
person suffering from diseased root may find it very painful once
infection of the pulp has set in and the suffering can last longer if
there is no available endodotist for the time being. It usually takes
several weeks before an endodotist’s gets a free schedule.
Endodontics is
trained to help to maintain a person’s oral cavity improved.
Accidents can occur and teeth can be damaged resulting for
necessitating the root canal procedure. The root canal treatment can
be costly because it is an extensive process that may take an hour or
more per visit. Some problems may also be centered on this specific
part of the oral cavity, but general dentists and specialists can
evaluate these. A general dentist will propose for the patient to go
to a specialist to ensure that he/she gets the needed care that
needed. If a root canal, a crown, or other dental treatments are
needed, the patient should make an appointment for check up with a
specialist.
